Gippsland Lakes Conversations

Are you interested in discovering the projects that are currently happening in and around the Gippsland Lakes and having the chance to speak one-on-one with the people who are on the ground making these things happen?

Gippsland Lakes Conversations – a gathering of people and ideas, will be held on Tuesday, 3 April at Forestec between 9am and 3pm followed by a boat trip on the Gippsland Lakes.

Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee Co-Chair, Dr Peter Veenker, said the event was a chance to learn more about projects at the Gippsland Lakes and the science behind how they are managed.

“The day will start at 9am and feature a series of guest speakers including research scientist and lecturer Dr Perran Cook, climate change activist and documentary film maker Liz Courtney as well as speakers from the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, the Marine Mammal Foundation and Greening Australia,” said Dr Veenker.

“A highlight of the day will be the outdoor expo featuring many of the project happening around the Lakes, that will be set amongst the picturesque natural setting of Forestec

“This is an opportunity to talk to community grant recipients and agency representatives about the work their organisations are doing at the Gippsland Lakes.”

Some of these projects include photographing creatures over a series of 12 dives under the surface of the Lakes, researching the Australasian Bittern, restoring habitat at wetlands around the Gippsland Lakes and many more.

“To complete the day the community is also invited to join us for a boat trip to see some of the sites where work is occurring and hear observations from project managers as well as guest speakers,” continued Dr Veenker.

“Spaces are limited for both the boat trip at the Conversations event at Forestec so if you would like to join us we suggest you register as soon as possible.”

Registration is now open for both the Gippsland Lakes Conversations at Forestec and the boat trip. Registrations will be taken separately for each event. Participants wishing to attend both events should register on each separately.
