Hi … We moved to Newlands Arm just over 12 months ago and was thrilled to find dolphins here. If you really want sightings of dolphins reported, we can do so.
For instance a single dolphin (we saw only the one fin) exploring McMillan Strait late morning on Saturday 16/08/14.
Thursday 07/08/14 late morning or early afternoon approximately 15 – 18 observed in pairs and threes swimming eastward out of Newlands Arm Backwater towards Montague Point.
Sunday 22/06/14 late morning and early afternoon approximately 6 – first observed “bubblenetting” in McMillan Strait, then at Sunset Cove (Paynesville side of Newlands Arm Backwater), then at Dawson Cove (NA side of NA Backwater). At both Coves, quite close to shore but no longer appeared to be bubblenetting.
Hope this info helps.
Cheers, Vivien Sabine
Hi Vivien, thanks for your sighting. If you have any other sightings to report, for dolphins or other wildlife, check out the Report Wildlife Sightings page… https://www.loveourlakes.net.au/linking-together/report-wildlife-sightings/
In 2007 I saw some dolphin behaviour that I did not know at the time was unusual. I was watching “Kevin 07″ (remember him?) giving an election speech, when looking out our window at Loch Sport I saw a dolphin tail walking. I have recently read that this is learned behaviour, cited as social culture. I realise my one observation is not very useful, but has anyone else seen it? Where could a Loch Sport dolphin learn this, which my reference implies is learnt from Sea World and the like?
